Consignment Road Trip: City Guide

Think great consignment shopping is limited to New York City? You’re mistaken, sister.

Here is MORE's road map to some second-hand gems around the country. If we missed your local spot, or a discovery you made traveling, let us know in the Comments section. Check out fashion editor Susan Swimmer's own shopping consignment shopping experiences from our December/January 2010 issue.

Getting clothes into Back By Popular Demand might be just as challenging as getting into some colleges. Managers say they sort through nearly 1,500 items a day and take 400 to 500. Nearly 30 percent of what’s in store still has tags attached. For example? A black couture St. John evening dress, with its original price tag (over $1,000). The consignment price was less than half that. The store also sells a lot of accessories, ranging from Louis Vuitton to Coach. And if size is your issue, don’t fret. A well stocked plus-size department includes pieces from Lane Bryant and Venezia.

Brand sampling: Talbots, Ann Taylor, Chico’s, Dooney and Burke, Lane Bryant
